Luiza Karnas
Teaching Artist
Luiza is a dance artist and educator originally from Porto Alegre, Brazil. She received her M.F.A in Performance and Choreography from SUNY The College at Brockport, NY, and graduated from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS (Brazil) with a degree in Dance Education. In 2013, Karnas was a Brazil Scientific Mobility Program scholarship recipient and studied at Hofstra University for one academic year. A tap enthusiast from the heart, her interests also include intensive training in ballet and modern dance.
Karnas was nominated for Porto Alegre’s Açorianos Prize of Dance – Outstanding Tap Dance in 2012 and 2014 due to her solid work as a choreographer and a tap dancer. She has presented choreographic works at venues in Brazil and NYC, including Teatro Renascença, Dixon Place, Triskelion Arts, Center for Performance Research, HATCH Series, Symphony Space, Spoke the Hub, and more. Recently, Karnas completed a choreographic residency at Hofstra University as special guest artist for the Spring Dance Concert 2019.
An advocate of dance education, Karnas is thrilled to be part of WR Arts team and share her passion for movement and rhythm with the North Brooklyn community.
